Additional Information: Margaret Crosbie-Burnett joined the University of Miami faculty in 1991. She has served as Director of Training for the doctoral program in Counseling Psychology from 1994 to 1997, program coordinator for the Master’s program in Counseling from 1994 to the present, and as department chairperson from 1997 to 2005. She graduated magna cum laude with honors in psychology from Brown University in 1976, and earned her Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Stanford University in 1983. Prior to coming to the University of Miami, she was an assistant/associate professor at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She was elected to Fellow status within the American Psychological Association in August 2004.
Crosbie-Burnett’s research focuses on non-traditional families, particularly stepfamilies and gay and lesbian families, and school-family relations. Her work includes the development of theory and assessment instruments, and implications for practice. Publications and presentations are listed in her vitae. She has taught a variety of courses and practica in counseling, and chaired dozens of dissertations.
Crosbie-Burnett has held a variety of leadership positions in national organizations. Most recently, she was Vice President for Diversity and Public Interest in the Family Psychology Division (43) of the American Psychological Association. Since 2005, she has been a Fellow in the National Council on Family Relations, an interdisciplinary organization. She has served as a reviewer for many journals, and been on the editorial boards of Family Relations and Psychotherapy. At the University of Miami, she recently served on the School of Education Ethics Committee, Office of the Provost Women’s Advisory Committee, the University Faculty Oversight Committee for NCAA Accreditation, and the Graduate School Committee on Fellowships. She has served on the University Research Committee, the University Faculty Senate, and chaired the University Faculty Committee on Athletics. |
