Additional Information:

Connie Chan is Chair of the Department of Public Policy and Public Affairs and Program Director of the Public Policy Ph.D. program.  She is also Professor of Human Services in the College of Public and Community Service at UMass Boston. 
 
Dr. Chan was Co-Director of the UMass Boston Institute for Asian American Studies since for ten years.  As Co-Director, she helped to create the Institute’s applied research and policy agenda focusing on the needs of the Asian-American population in Massachusetts and the United States.
 
A licensed clinical psychologist, Professor Chan has served on the staffs of the Boston Children’s Hospital, Westborough State Hospital, South Cove Community Health Center, and as a consulting psychologist for the Boston Juvenile Court and the MBTA Police. She presently serves as a supervising clinical psychologist for the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology at Boston Medical Center.
 
Dr. Chan is author of the book, If It Runs in the Family: At Risk for Depression (Bantam Books) and has published many book chapters and journal articles on sexuality, sexual behaviors, and sexuality identities of Asians and Asian Americans.  Most recently she published "Psychological Issues of Asian Americans" in Teaching Gender and Multicultural Awareness: Resources for the Multicultural Classroom (American Psychological Association), and "Counseling Chinese American lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals" in Asian Voices: Emerging Needs of Asian Americans (Jones and Bartlett).
 
A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, Professor Chan has served as President of APA’s Division 44 and as associate editor for the APA journal Professional Psychology: Research and Practice.  She is currently a member of the Ethics Committee of the American Psychological Association.
