January 16: Robert-Jay Green presents “Narratives of professional psychologists: Multicultural voices in the social construction of identity” at the annual conference of the National Council of Schools in Professional Psychology (NCSPP), Austin, TX.

February 6 to 12: Rockway Institute participates in the Creating Change Conference, sponsored by the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Detroit MI. 

May 4: Rockway Institute and GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) provide media training to members of the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists during the American Psychiatric Association Convention, Washington, D.C.

June 18: Rockway collaborates with the New School’s Wolfson Center for National Affairs to co-sponsor a panel presentation open to the general public on "Gay Rights and the Politics of 2008," New York, NY.

June 18 to 21: Robert-Jay Green participates in the Human Rights Forum: Issues in the lives of LGBT families with Young Children at the annual conference of the American Family Therapy Academy,  Philadelphia, PA.

June 20: Robert-Jay Green is moderator for a panel on “Transgender family issues.”  American Family Therapy Academy, Philadelphia, PA.

June 20: Shawn Giammattei (Research Associate at the Rockway Institute) and Robert-Jay Green present a research poster on “Family relations and emotional intelligence of children raised by lesbian or heterosexual parents” at the annual conference of the American Family Therapy Academy, Philadelphia, PA.

June 20: Rockway Institute and GLAAD provide media training to members of the American Family Therapy Academy, Philadelphia, PA.

July 5: Rockway Institute co-sponsors, and Eduardo Morales (Fellow of the Rockway Institute) chairs a Mexico City LGBT Leadership Summit that is believed to be the first such event sponsored by a university  in Latin America.

August 13: Rockway Institute and GLAAD provide introductory and advanced media trainings to members of the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 44 during the APA national meeting, Boston, MA.

August 14: Robert-Jay Green presents “Same-sex couples in therapy:  A social justice perspective” at the symposium Advancing Social Justice Through Multicultural Family Psychology Practice, American Psychological Association, Boston, MA.

August 22: Rockway Institute, GLAAD and Box Turtle Bulletin collaborate to present a panel, “Reporting Research Without Being Snookered,” at the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association convention, Washington, D.C. Presenters are Rick Moore, Rockway Director of Communications, Cindi Creager, GLAAD Director of National News, and Jim Burroway, founder and editor of Box Turtle Bulletin.

September 19: Robert-Jay Green presents the keynote address at a “Frontiers in Family Psychology Conference on Lesbian & Gay Families” presented by Antioch University -- Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, CA.

Media Training for members of WPATH and the Chicago LGBT Community

Chicago, September 7, 2007.

Rockway Institute and GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, headquartered in New York and Los Angeles) offered a media training for members of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health during the group's bi-annual meeting in Chicago.  

A second training was held at The Center on Halsted for members of the Chicago LGBT community.

Rockway at NLGJA Convention

San Diego, August 30 to September 1, 2007.

Rick Moore, Director of Communications at the Rockway Institute, hosted an exhibit table at the San Diego convention of the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association. The table introduced the Institute as a resource for reporters wanting to include psychological, psychiatric, social science, and medical research in their coverage of LGBT issues, particularly in stories refuting false claims made by antigay groups.

Rockway's Green Presents to APA Convention

San Francisco, Sunday, August 19, 2007.

At the American Psychological Association Convention in San Francisco, Executive Director Robert-Jay Green presented the annual invited lecture for APA's Division of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues.  The topic will be "Antigay Groups: Using Our Expertise to Counter their False Claims."  Also at the convention, he will present a research paper with co-author Kevin Campbell, PhD in a symposium on “Attachment and Same-Sex Couples.”

Media Training for members of the American Psychological Association

San Francisco, Thursday August 16, 2007.

Rockway Institute and GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, headquartered in New York and Los Angeles) offered a media training for APA members in San Francisco during  the American Psychological Association meeting. 

Cindi Creager, director of national news for GLAAD conducted the training. Participants learned how to: (1) get opportunities for television, radio and print media interviews; (2) prepare for such interviews; and  (3) how to handle difficult questions and "opposing experts" in broadcast interviews.  Robert-Jay Green, PhD, Executive Director of the Rockway Institute, explained the Institute’s "LGBT Scientific Accuracy in the  Media Project" (funded by the Gill Foundation) and described how participants in this APA media training might be involved in that project after the training.

Chicago, May 4, 2007

Robert-Jay Green, PhD, presented “Interventions for Enhancing Couple Relationships and Father Involvement: Different Strokes for Lesbian, Gay, and Heterosexual Folks” at The Council on Contemporary Families’ Tenth Anniversary Conference in Chicago. Rockway - GLAAD  Media Training for Psychiatrists

During the American Psychiatric Association Convention in San Diego, Rockway Institute and GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) provided media training to psychiatrists who are interested in serving as experts on LGBT issues for television, radio, and print media interviews.

The Rockway Institute and New School University in New York (formerly the New School for Social Research), presented a panel event titled “Lesbian and Gay Lives:  Fighting the False Science of the Right." Panelists were Ellen Perrin, MD, Director of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at Tufts-New England Medical Center and author of Sexual Orientation in Child and Adolescent Health Care; Jack Drescher, MD, Psychiatrist and Supervising Analyst, William Alanson White Psychoanalytic Institute in New York and Editor of the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Psychotherapy; and Robert-Jay Green, PhD, Executive Director of the Rockway Institute, Distinguished Professor, California School of Professional Psychology, and co-author of Lesbians and Gays in Couples and Families.

Rockway Fund Raiser at National Arts Club

New York City, June 11, 2007

The Rockway Institute co-hosted a New York Briefing and Reception at the National Arts Club on Gramercy Park with honorary co-chairs Kathleen Chalfant and Stephen Spinella, original cast members from Tony Kushner’s award-winning play Angels in America, and Dr. David Greenan, Psychologist at the Minuchin Center for the Family and co-author of Couples Therapy with Gay Men.
