The TLI iClassroom Initiative is designed to infuse more information and instructional technologies into the classrooms in order to encourage more student-centered collaborative learning. We hope that the initiative, with strong faculty involvement, will advocate and help the university implement these technologies in a much more comprehensive scale later. At the San Diego campus, there are two iClassrooms under the initiative: M-7 iClassroom (available since spring 2005) and CUE 300 iClassroom (available since spring 2006). The iClassroom has a SMART Board (interactive whiteboard) with a projector, 17-32 notebooks on a wireless network, and SynchronEyes software for class interactions. The classrooms are also setup with half-round desks to encourage group discussions and maximum interactions among students and professor. The iClassroom also works well with Blackboard integration to the course. Faculty participating in the initiative are provided with one-on-one training and preparation on utilizing technologies in the iClassroom. Collaborative consultations on how to infuse technology into the classroom are available for faculty. A central key element of the iClassroom Initiative is its commitment to continuous improvements in various aspects such as training/preparation for faculty, available technologies, evaluation/feedback process, etc. Please contact Aung Zayar Lwin (alwin@alliant.edu) if you are interested in holding your courses in the iClassrooms.
