USICB receives second annual CONAHEC grant

GlobalMind Center Launches the 2004-05
Bi-national Project for Transfer of
Information Systems Skills to Tijuana

SAN DIEGO, CA – OCT. 27, 2004 – The United States International College of Business (USICB) and the GlobalMind: Center for Strategic Consulting at Alliant International University have launched a second annual project aimed at developing information systems skills in Tijuana businesses.

Drs. Rachna Kumar and Louise Kelly formally presented the project details at a breakfast meeting of the Mexican Chamber of Commerce for the Electronics Industry Telecommunications and Information (CANIETI) in Grand Hotel, Tijuana. The launch was attended by a group of eminent local business representatives, students and representatives from the Universidad Tecnologico de Tijuana (UTT) and members of the Tijuana press.

The project, which is funded by a second annual grant from the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), enables USICB to team with CANIETI and the Universidad Tecnologico de Tijuana with the goal of helping small businesses in Tijuana to compete. While helping students to gain IT skills, the project also helps the businesses that employ them with managerial strategies. The project’s main objective is to promote and cultivate the software development and utilization capabilities of small businesses in Tijuana.

The "TJ Data-Driven Business Readiness Project" was conceived by Dr. Rachna Kumar and Dr. Louise Kelly of USICB. In its second year, the program enables CANIETI, UTT and USICB to partner in training small businesses to utilize database-driven marketing techniques and data-driven strategic planning.
