 Biography

Rebecca Turner is a professor in the Organizational Psychology Division of Marshall Goldsmith School of Management, Alliant International University in San Francisco, where she teaches courses on social psychology in organizations, group dynamics and organizational assessment. Her career is focused on applying psychological concepts and principles to organizational challenges. As a consultant to businesses and non-profit organizations, Dr. Turner focuses on the “people side of business”, working with individuals and groups to enhance leadership effectiveness and to conduct research that informs their decision-making and planning. She has also provided training to organizational leaders in areas that draw upon research and theory in the social sciences, including developing stronger working relationships with business partners, resolving conflicts, and facilitating change during organizational and management transitions.

Dr. Turner currently serves as Board Secretary/Treasurer of Division III, Industrial/Organizational and Consulting Psychology, for the California Psychological Association (CPA) and holds memberships in two divisions of the American Psychological Association - the Division of Consulting Psychology and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP). In 2003, Dr. Turner was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the San Francisco Mental Health Board, which elected her as Chair in 2004. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Suicide Prevention. For the past two decades, Dr. Turner has been a faculty member at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and subsequently California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) at Alliant where she conducted research on interpersonal relationships and emotion, and their impact on health and risk behaviors. In work that was funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health, she was the first psychologist to publish empirical research exploring human attachment and oxytocin, the hormone neuroscientists have identified as promoting social attachments. At UCSF, she has been an affiliated faculty member for the postdoctoral program in psychology and medicine, Center for Health and Community, and also co-facilitated professional development groups for medical students. At CSPP, Dr. Turner served as Director for the Ph.D. Program on the San Francisco campus from 2000 to 2003.
