Locale & Amenities

With over nine million people in the four-thousand-plus square miles of LA County, Los Angeles is California’s largest city and the second largest in the nation. One of the premier cities in the Pacific Rim, it is a center for culture and commerce.

The City of Angeles embraces an astonishing diversity of cultures, environments, and activities. More than any other city in the US, LA has over 80 stage theatres, more than 80 different languages spoken in the public school system, and a mere 300 museums representing a vast array of art forms and cultures.

Between the famed beach towns of Santa Monica and Venice Beach on the west and the elegant charm of Pasadena to the east, Los Angeles encompasses a range of communities and life styles; it has a Chinatown, a large Korean community, Latino neighborhoods, artists' enclaves, as well as many student and celebrity neighborhoods.

The concentration of cultural, educational, and recreational resources around Los Angeles is among the most extensive in the United States.

The Los Angeles area also offers an abundance of professional and collegian sports teams, as well as numerous participatory sports, such as: surfing, swimming, beach volleyball, in-door soccer, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving & snorkling, basketball, and sailing. Though LA is known for summer activities, Big Bear Mountain, only two hours away, offers an assortment of winter sports, such as: skiing, snow boarding, sledding, snow shoeing, and tubing.

The links below provide only a small sampling of the riches around the area.
