About the Kaufman Library
Services of the Kauffman Library are carefully planned to meet the special curricular and research needs of all academic programs on the campus. With holdings of over 18,000 volumes (including over 600 video and audio tapes) and a current subscription list of over 200 journals, this specialized library is strong in its emphasis on reference and research services.
The main room holds the book, journal, audiovisual materials, dissertations, and group and individual study areas, database search center, circulation desk, and reference area. Also included in the library suite are photocopiers, microform reader/printers, a quiet reading room and staff offices.
In addition to traditional bibliographic resources, there is a growing electronic reference program composed of Web-based databases including PsycINFO, Lexis-Nexis, MEDLINE, Books in Print, ERIC, Health and Psychosocial Instruments (HaPI), and Proquest Direct, a full text document service. These online databases are supplemented by Internet access via the Netscape browser and by the online database of all Alliant Library collection. The Psychological Test Materials Center and audiovisual services programs are also coordinated by the Kauffman Library within the Learning Resources Center.
In its role as an information gathering and retrieval service, the Kaufman Library is an entry point into local, regional, and national library networks including the National Network of Libraries of Medicine sponsored by the National Library of Medicine and the OCLC bibliographic service. Cooperative liaisons and working relationships have been established with all major extensive linkages with state, national, and international sources.
