Golden State Psychology Internship Association (GSPIA)

Golden State Psychology Internship Association (GSPIA) formally known as Central California Psychology Internship Consortium Association (CCPICA) is comprised of four consortia, consisting of twenty three facilities located in Central California, spanning from Sacramento to San Luis Obispo. GSPIA was formed in order to provide a comprehensive psychology internship program in the Central Valley of California. Through a consortium arrangement, interns have the opportunity to engage in diverse training experiences and are exposed to a broad range of client populations. Internship sites can pool their training resources to provide an integrated, coherent, and well-balanced training experience.

The facilities offer an intensive training program covering a broad range of experiences for the internship participants. Areas of concentration include children, community mental health, college counseling centers, inpatient, and forensic psychology. The sites provide a variety of theoretical orientations from which the intern may learn and hone therapeutic skills. It is the mission of GSPIA to provide the highest level of training for interns to prepare them for an ever-changing dynamic role in the mental health care system of the future.

The Golden State Psychology Internship Association (GSPIA) is composed of four consortia: Northern California Psychology Internship Consortium (NCPIC), Central California Psychology Internship Consortium (CCPIC), Mid Coast Psychology Internship Consortium (MCPIC) and Southern California Psychology Internship Consortium (SCPIC). GSPIA is in the heart of Central California and is one of the most unique and diverse communities in the world. Rich in cultural and ethnic diversity, the urban and rural residents represent over 80 different heritages from a population of 2 million.

Accreditation

All four consortiums within GSPIA are members of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). Of the four consortia comprising GSPIA, only the Central California Psychology Internship Consortium (CCPIC) has been granted full accreditation by the American Psychological Association (APA).

CCPIC was founded in 1987, became a member of APPIC in 1998 and received full accreditation by APA in 1990. It became inactive in 1993 and 1994, but in 1996 became active with a new organizational structure. CCPIC is made up of 8 different facilities. Interns send their applications to GSPIA specifying of the 23 sites they would like to apply.
