Fresno Community Services & Placements Golden State Psychology Internship Association
Psychology students enrolled in CSPP programs at the Fresno Campus enjoy a rich variety of field placement experiences ranging from onsite experiences at the W. Gary Cannon Psychological Services Center to internships facilitated by the many community and mental health agencies that are members of the Golden State Psychology Internship Association (GSPIA) formally known as Central California Psychology Internship Consortium Association (CCPICA). W. Gary Cannon Psychological Service Center (PSC) The W. Gary Cannon Psychological Service Center (PSC) is an integral part of the clinical psychology training program at Alliant International University. Clinical services are provided by practicum students and interns under the supervision of licensed clinical faculty. The PSC provides a wide range of services, including services to underserved populations in the Central Valley. Students receive individual and group onsite supervision in a variety of areas including child/parent clinical cases, in-home geriatric clients, disability evaluation, juvenile probation assessments, child protective services, family court service child custody evaluation, and hospital-based assessments. Programs also provide services for the treatment of anxiety disorders, domestic violence, and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Training is approached from a variety of theoretical orientations including psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, systems, and short-term solution-focused models. The client population which is ethnically and culturally diverse and varies in socioeconomic backgrounds, experiences problems ranging from moderate difficulties in daily living to severe deficiencies in psychological functioning. All PsyD students, the majority of PhD students in the Clinical Psychology programs and the majority of Forensic students in Fresno spend some portion of their practicum experience within the PSC, in addition to receiving professional training at other sites in the local area and, in their final year, at internship placements around the United States. Golden State Psychology Internship Association The Golden State Psychology Internship Association (GSPIA) formally known as Central California Psychology Internship Consortium Association (CCPICA) was founded by CSPP-Fresno in 1996 and consists of four consortia throughout California. Each region operates as a separate consortium ranging from three to nine member agencies per consortium. Presently there are 14 agencies within all four consortia. The four consortia are: - Northern California Psychology Internship Consortium (NCPIC),
- Mid-Coast Psychology Internship Consortium (MCPIC),
- Central California Psychology Internship Consortium (CCPIC), and
- Kern County Psychology Internship Consortium (KCPIC).
GSPIA internships provide a broad range of clinical experiences with clients differing in age, diagnoses, and cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Interns also use an array of assessment and intervention procedures and work with multi-disciplinary teams. The internships facilitate an environment that will expand the interns’ awareness and understanding of their strengths and limitations while fostering personal growth, responsibility and autonomy in providing psychological services.
