Socio-Cultural Perspectives on Clinical Work with Latino Populations
January 13-19, 2008 Mexico City | This program is aimed at professionals in social services who have at least an intermediate level of Spanish. It is offered by the California School of Professional Psychology and Continuing Education of Alliant International University at Alliant's Mexico City Campus. It includes Spanish language training for mental health clinicians, and training by award winning psychologists. Some activities will include English and Spanish. Training is provided by Master Psychologist and Professor Guillermo Bernal, Ph.D. of the University of Puerto Rico, on the Evidence Based Practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Latinos. Eduardo Morales, Ph.D. Professor at CSPP-SF at Alliant offers clinical case consultation seminars on community interventions and clinical case consultation on special Latino populations. *Participants are responsible for arranging their travel to and from Mexico City. Information will be provided upon registration for airport/hotel transfers (cost not included). Jason Platt, Ph.D.is the director for the Masters in Counseling Psychology program at the Mexico City campus of Alliant International University. He is the developer of a Certificate in Latin American Family Therapy. He also organizes an annual five week Marriage and Family Therapy Spanish Immersion Program in Mexico. In addition, he runs a program that offers Spanish for Mental Health Clinicians. The emphasis of his work is influenced by the ideas of Paulo Freire’s dialogical approach and the tenets of liberation psychology as described by Ignacio Martin Baro. He is a passionate advocate for the need to better address the clinical needs of Latino clients, ethnic minority issues, and multicultural training in psychology.
