Liberal Studies for Education (BA) - Southwestern College campus
Program Overview This program offers subject-matter preparation to those students who plan to enter a teacher certification program. It also provides students with opportunities to observe effective teachers and to work as aides in classrooms or become tutors or assistants in after school programs. Graduates of this program will gain insight into the teaching profession and if they choose, eventually help to increase the supply of highly qualified, well-trained teachers who are preparing their own students to be effective citizens and compete for jobs both locally and globally. After completing this program, students will be prepared to pass the California Subject Matter Examination for Teachers-Multiple Subject (CSET). The coursework also prepares students to meet the 32-unit subject-matter requirement for an Introductory Subject-Matter Authorization in either Mathematics or English. Students may also choose to transition seamlessly into Alliant’s Graduate School of Education Teacher Credential Program.
Curriculum Overview Students will take introductory, content and capstone core courses, and will also choose a concentration in either math or English, or may even design their own concentration. Professional Development courses are also required. For more detail, review coursework for the program.
