The master's degree program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at the Shirley Hufstedler School of Education (HSOE) at Alliant features: - a curriculum relevant to the needs of TESOL practitioners,
- a highly qualified, experienced faculty,
- small classes and collaboration with our on-site Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages program.
- firsthand experience in classrooms through the Shirley M. Hufstedler School of Education's Partners for Success program by collaborating with local schools and community college districts.
This masters program offers a balance between theory and practice through a combination of TESOL methodology, linguistics, and education courses. It is designed for both prospective and experienced English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) educators. Students may earn the TESOL Graduate Certificate after taking five master's courses.

Students in the TESOL master's program develop competencies in:
Techniques of teaching listening, speaking, reading, and writing to English language learners in a variety of educational settings

Developing curricula designed to meet the needs of linguistically and culturally diverse students
Students in the TESOL master's program follow careers in teaching English language learners in elementary or secondary schools, adult education programs, college and university-based ESL programs, and English as a Foreign Language programs abroad. Master's graduates also hold positions as instructors in teacher training programs in the US and throughout the world.
