TESOL Master's Program Curriculum

Degree Requirements

This Master's degree concentration includes courses in TESOL theory and methodology, linguistics and professional education. The TESOL concentration is designed for both prospective and experienced English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) educators. Specified courses meet the coursework requirements for the Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development* (CLAD) Certificate and the TESOL Certificate.Courses are three units unless otherwise indicated.

  • TES 7410 Theory and Method of Second Language Teaching
  • TES 7420 Principles of Linguistics
  • TES 7480 Technology and Teaching English Learners
  • TES 7485 Research Methods and Seminar
  • TES 7490 TESOL Practicum/Project

Choose four courses (12 units)

  • TES 7050 Academic Instruction Designed for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students
  • TES 7430 Techniques of Teaching Reading and Writing to Second Language Learners
  • TES 7440 Techniques of Teaching Listening and Speaking to Second Language Learners
  • TES 7450 Introduction to Psycholinguistics and Sociolinguistics
  • TES 7460 English Grammar for ESL and EFL Teaching
  • TES 7470 Teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • TES 7475 Topics in TESOL Research and Pedagogy

Graduation Requirements
