Alliant English Language Requirements

Alliant English Language Requirements
English Proficiency Test
ESL Courses

All international students who enroll at Alliant International University and who are not native speakers of English must meet Alliant’s English language requirements before they can take academic classes. Students may meet the English language requirements in one of the following ways:

  • The student received a score of 213 on the computer-based TOEFL (or 233 for master’s or doctorate programs in Education).
  • The student is from a country where English is the official language.
  • The student received an undergraduate or graduate degree from an American university.
  • The student transfers to Alliant with transfer credit in freshman composition.

High school transcripts of students who have graduated from an English medium secondary school will be reviewed to determine if the student must take the English Proficiency Test.

Students who do not meet any of the English language requirements must take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) before beginning their first semester of study at Alliant. Based on the results of the proficiency test, students either will be placed into ESL courses or given exemption from ESL. Test results will be available the day after the test.  Contact the ESL office for EPT test dates and times.

Academic performance at Alliant may reveal the necessity for further English language study by a student.  The university reserves the right to make the final determination of a student’s English proficiency level in all cases..
