In the Forensic Psychology Psy.D. program,
students will learn to apply mental health principles and scientific technique to legal questions. The practioner-scholar program at the Center for Forensic Studies provides students a strong background in forensic diagnostic assessment and evaluation, research skills and a blend of both academic and practical experience.
This graduate program in forensic psychology emphasizes the application of forensic psychological theory and practice in individual and group settings. Students will receive training and practical experience working with clients from a number of different venues including juvenile hall, jail, prison, California Youth Authority, probation, parole, group homes, and other forensic settings.
Courses focus on issues including police stress, addiction, sex offenders, domestic violence, serial killers (motivations and victims), juvenile delinquency, stalking, and victimology. Areas of specialty include neuropsychology and criminology.
Career possibilities include police psychology, research and academics, forensic evaluation and expert witness services, consultation with law enforcement agencies, and prison psychology among many other options.
