Singapore: A Practice-Oriented Master of Science Degree Program in Clinical Psychology

The Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Psychology offered by the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, in partnership with the Asia Institute of Professional Psychology, is the first practice-oriented graduate training offered by an American university in Singapore. The MSc program is clinically designed to prepare students for successful careers as clinical psychologists. The program blends theory and application, classroom instruction and supervised field work. Participants in the program are dedicated to helping improve the lives of individuals and families as recognized professionals in healthcare and social service settings.

Structure of the Degree
The MSc program requires a minimum of 45 credits, including a Master’s Project and practical training. This graduate program requires a high degree of academic rigor and personal commitment like those students in the US. The program is designed to be completed in a 2-year cycle. The CSPP Singapore program is designed to:

  • Prepare students to master the clinical skills needed for the delivery of culturally-relevant psychological services;
  • Enable students to understand the systems, concepts and history of psychology;
  • Train students as competent psychologists to work in a multi-disciplinary context and address issues such as marital problems, substance abuse, domestic violence, school consultations and childrearing;
  • Help students to successfully integrate research into practice into order to effectively participate in the mental health delivery system in Singapore.

Accreditation and Registration
Students who have successfully completed the MSc are eligible to register as a Registered Psychologist with Singapore Psychological Society after meeting the post-degree clinical hour requirements.

Alliant International University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the US Department of Education. The Singapore MSc program is pending WASC approval. This program in Singapore is not accredited by the American Psychology Association (APA). APA does not grant accreditation to any academic program outside of the US and Canada.
