Application Requirements

Applicants to the program must submit the following documents with their application form and $55 non-refundable application fee (payable to Alliant International University):

  1. Written proof from the State or Provincial Board of Examiners that the applicant holds a current, valid license in good standing as a doctoral level psychologist. (Applicants who are preparing for a state licensing exam should contact the Program Director, who must individually review and approve such candidates.)
  2. Abbreviated curriculum vitae or resume that summarizes your professional activities.
  3. Email account and access to the Internet, via cable or DSL connection.

As a provider of distance education with a student body residing in geographically diverse locations, our program relies on electronic communication for distribution of class updates, readings and handouts. Students in the program are expected to routinely check their email for program announcements. They are also expected to understand and utilize Moodle, an e-Education platform, which is used for posting course materials such as presentation slides, instructors’ class notes, exam study guides, take home exams and articles or other readings.

In addition, our curriculum includes coursework and practice in accessing the most recent psychopharmacological resources, available via the Internet. Unless a physical disability or other extenuating circumstances prevent you from being able to utilize a computer, students should consider email and access to the Internet (ideally through a cable or DSL connection) to be a program requirement. Exceptions to this policy must be cleared with program administration before the start of classes.

Program Cost

Tuition for the Spring 2009 class is $12,980. Tuition charges are distributed over five payments of $2596, billed each semester (usually in January and July). Students can also expect an additional $1,500 in expenses for books, university fees and incidentals. A complete fee schedule is available from the program office.

Financial Aid and Tuition Discounts

  • Because this program is designated as a half-time program, students are eligible for Federal Stafford Loans within the eligibility guidelines of that program. Interest and payments can be deferred until the program is completed, however interest will begin accruing once the loan is received. Students receiving Stafford Loans also receive deferments on prior Federal loans. Students must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in order to begin to establish need.
  • A discount of $500 will be subtracted from the final tuition payment for students who are members of their State Psychological Association’s Division or Task Force related to Psychopharmacology. In California this discount will be given to members of CPA Division 5; in Louisiana it will be given to members of the Louisiana Association of Medical Psychologists.
  • Students have the opportunity to apply for a tuition discount by serving as their site’s Regional Academic Coordinator (RAC). We have one RAC per site. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please contact us at psychopharm@alliant.edu.

Courses Available for Transfer Credit

Individuals who have taken courses in Neuroanatomy, Neurophysiology, Neurochemistry, Clinical Biochemistry or Clinical Pharmacology may apply to transfer these courses covering equivalent content up to 20% of the program units. There is a $200 transfer fee per course.

If you received academic credit for these courses at the graduate level at another accredited institution and earned a "B" or higher, you can be considered for transfer credit by submitting the relevant transcript(s) and course descriptions, and a $200 waiver fee per course.

If you received only continuing education credit for these courses, you must submit the documentation specified above, and also must successfully pass a closed-book challenge examination in the topic area, based on materials that will be provided by the CSPP Psychopharmacology Program to help you prepare.
