The PhD Program requires a minimum of 120 academic units and 30 internship units. Requirements for advancement to candidacy for Fresno students include in the following order:
successful completion of 60 units of graduate study at the Fresno campus;
successful defense of their dissertation proposal at the Preliminary Oral Examination;
and passing the Comprehensive Examination. The examination will be given once each semester. Students may take the exam as many times as necessary during the seven years allowable for the completion of the doctoral degree. Students may not apply for internship until they have passed the exam.
