July 28, 2010- Los Angeles student Lindsay M. Salseda has an article in press with co-authors Drs. Dixon, Fass, Miora and Leark titled An evaluation of Miranda rights and interrogation in autism spectrum disorders. It will be published in the journal of Research in Autism Spectrum Disorders (2010).

 

July 1, 2010- The Sex Crimes and Paraphilia Institute (SCPI) of the California School of Forensic Studies will sponsor an all-day symposium at the Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma's 15th International Conference Sunday September eleveth. CSFS faculty and SCPI Director Dr. Sean Sterling and Dr. Glenn Lipson will present with CSFS students. More.

 

June 18, 2010-CSFS is pleased to announce that San Francisco Program Director William R. Holcomb, PhD, MBA is primary author of the recently-published book Sexual Violence-advances in psychotherapy, Hogrefe Publishers.

 

June 7, 2010--CSFS Dean Eric Hickey is featured on CNN's Atlanta Child Murders documentary. Between 1979 and 1981, 30 young African-Americans between ages 9 and 28 were killed or declared missing in Atlanta. Dean Hickey started his career in 1981, the summer Wayne Williams was caught. He interviewed many directly involved with the case. Atlanta Child Murders premieres Thursday June 10 at 6:00pm PDT and will air several more times that weekend on CNN.

 

July 8, 2010-CSFS Dean Eric Hickey is consulted for this July 8 article on Discovery News, "Science of Evil: Depravity Scale Ranks Evil".

 

May 19, 2010--At the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services Conference in Vancouver, CSFS faculty members Martha Esquivel, PsyD, Robert Leark, PhD and Sherry Skidmore, PhD will present a poster on Measurement of Parental Acceptance-Rejection among adolescent sex offenders and their non-offending siblings.  The conference is May 25-27, 2010.


May 11, 2010--CSFS LA Professor Kyle Boone had a paper accepted to the Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology entitled "sensitivity and specificity of a digit symbol recognition trial in the identification of response bias".

 

April 20, 2010--Internship news: Our LA program had 14 of 15 doctoral students place through the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) match. The other placed through the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC).

 

April 26, 2010--(Singapore) San Diego faculty Dr. James Turner will present twice at the Asian Conference of Criminal & Operations Psychology on psychological and cultural approaches to law enforcement interviewing.

 

April 15, 2010--CSFS is pleased to announce that three students in the L.A. program were accepted to APA accredited internships. The sites include Porterville Developmental Center, part of the California Department of Developmental Services; United States Penitentiary-Hazelton, PA, a high security institution; and the Federal Correctional Institution in Morgantown, WV.

 

April 14, 2010--L.A.Professor Kyle Boone and Dr. M.E. Cottingham had a paper accepted by the Clinical Neuropsychologist on noncredible language deficits following mild traumatic brain injury.

 

April 15, 2010—LA Professor Kyle Boone, Dr. M.E. Cottingham and LA student Medina Baumgart had a poster accepted for presentation at the June 2010 annual meeting of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology in Chicago: MMPI-2-RF Somatic Scales: Sensitivity and specificity.

  

March 30, 2010- Dean Hickey comments on the secret life of Col. Russell Williams, alleged serial killer, in Macleans Magazine.

 

March 25, 2010-Dean Eric Hickey is presenting March 27 at the Aspetti Socio-Psicologici delle Investigazioni Criminali seminar at the Swiss School of Management in Rome, Italy.

 

March 10, 2010-San Diego faculty Dr. James T. Turner and Dr. Glenn Lipson will have a paper in the peer-reviewed Journal of Police Crisis Negotiations, A strategic approach to police interactions involving persons with mental illness.

 

February 23, 2010- L.A. faculty member Dr. Kyle Boone has been invited to give an address at APA's annual conference. She will present on The need for continuous and comprehensive sampling of effort/response bias during neuropsychological evaluations. See her August 14 in San Diego.

 

January 28, 2010- Fresno students Kate Warden and Brian Tesch will present posters at the American Psychological Association's 2010 convention in San Diego. Ms. Warden will present on Psychopharmacology and the Recurrence of Involuntary Commitment. Mr. Tesch will present on Police Knowledge and Utilization of Resources for Victims of Same-sex Domestic Violence.


January 15, 2010-San Diego student Martha Esquivel has papers accepted (Drs. Leark and Skidmore, co-authors) to the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services Conference (Vancouver, BC-May 2010), and to the 3rd International Congress on Interpersonal Acceptance and Rejection (Padua, Italy-July 2010).

 

January 12, 2010-San Diego faculty Dr James Turner is a judge at the 20th annual Hostage Negotiation Team Competition in San Marcos, January 12-14. Over 250 law enforcement teams will participate.

 

January 6, 2010-Future Trends in Terrorism and Political Violence, by CSFS Faculty Dr. James T. Turner, in the Journal Behavioral Sciences of Terrorism and Political Aggression. Vol. 2, Issue 1 Jan 2010.

November 13, 2009-CSFS welcomes Dr. Michael Stone, featured in Investigation Discovery's Most Evil, to present at the Sacramento campus Friday November 20th from 12:30-3:00pm.

 

November 10, 2009-The President of the International Association of Forensic and Correctional Psychology

 

 recognizes CSFS Fresno student Robin Rainwater for her APA poster presentation (Aug. 2009). More.

 

November 9, 2009- Modesto, CA-Dr. Jana Price-Sharps discusses Central Valley law enforcement issues with Behind the Badge hosts on 1360am KFIV.

 

November 9, 2009-Mendota, CA-Dean Hickey comments on a homicide allegedly committed by a 14-year old boy to the local ABC News channel.


November 4, 2009- Anthony Sowell: Why did he kill? Why did he keep the bodies? The death toll at the Sowell home rose to an astonishing 11 bodies (including one skull), making this the most gruesome and deadliest crime scene in Cleveland history. Dean Hickey provides some possible motivations for his behaviors. More.


October 28, 2009-CSFS is at the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology conference this week in Hartford, CT. Faculty are presenting on critical issues in law enforcement.

 

October 26, 2009- Discovery News: Dean Hickey comments on a study on serial murderers out of the University of Alberta. More.

 

October 22, 2009--San Diego Faculty Dr. James Turner has written the new forward for a new human resource teaching tool entitled Toxic Love: The Stalking of Nichole Briscoe by Jessica Mathiason.

 

October 22, 2009-Dean Eric Hickey was interviewed on criminality and psychopaths by the Discovery Channel for a new show, The Keith Barry Project. Check Discovery for air date, TBA soon.

 

October 21, 2009- CSFS welcomes Marion Chiurazzi, Psy.D. to our Sacramento campus where she will serve as adjunct professor. Currently Dr. Chiurazzi is the Deputy Director, Mental Health Services for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

 

October 17, 2009--Los Angeles Faculty Dr. Kyle Boone will give an address at the 2010 APA convention  (for Division 40 - Neuropsychology) on symptom validity testing and detection of feigned cognitive symptoms.

 

October 12, 2009-The Globe Magazine quotes Glenn Lipson, PhD, in an article about Yale graduate student Annie Le's murder and the possible motivations of her alleged attacker. Dr. Lipson is based at our San Diego campus.

 

October 8, 2009- Cambridge Who's Who has named CSFS Fresno-based Faculty Dr. Jana Price-Sharps Outstanding Professional of the Year and Expert Resource of the Year. This is the highest Cambridge Who's Who honor awarded each year.
