Summary:
Alliant was formed in 2001 through the merger of two institutions: United States International University and the California School of Professional Psychology. Its earliest origins date back to 1924, though the institution has undergone numerous changes of name and mission over its 85 year history. Alliant currently serves approximately 4,000 students in three primary fields: Psychology, Education and Management. More than 90% of Alliant students are pursuing advanced professional degrees at the Master’s and Doctorate level. Alliant is recognized as an innovative leader in several fields in the human and behavioral sciences. It is also one of the most diverse institutions in the nation; it is ranked #1 in psychology doctorates awarded to minorities, and is in the top 10 in awarding business doctorates to African Americans. It offers programs in six California cities (San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, Irvine and Los Angeles) and three international cities (Mexico City, Tokyo and Hong Kong). Alliant is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, the American Psychological Association and other specialized accreditors.
Alliant International University, a private, not-for-profit university, seeks a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to build and lead the institution’s marketing initiatives. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the CMO will work as a peer with the university’s deans and vice presidents to build the Alliant brand, recruit qualified students and attract support for the institution.
The CMO must be a strong, collaborative leader with the ability to guide strategic marketing activities on behalf of Alliant’s schools and centers that offer programs at campuses in California (San Francisco, San Diego, Fresno, Sacramento, Irvine and Los Angeles) and abroad (Mexico City, Tokyo and Hong Kong).
The successful candidate will be dedicated to providing high quality service to all constituencies of Alliant University. S/he will exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical principles and will be committed to the tenets of Alliant University’s Mission and Vision.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a strategic, overarching and integrated marketing and communications plan to strongly position Alliant among priority audiences in the U.S. and abroad.
- Work with Deans and Marketing Directors in Alliant’s three schools (the California School of Professional Psychology, the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management, the Graduate School of Education) and two Centers (the Center for Forensic Studies and the Center for Undergraduate Education) to prepare and implement school-based marketing plans.
- Work with the Vice President for Development to create and implement marketing, communications and community outreach efforts that will increase support for the university.
- Work with the Director of Admissions to increase qualified leads and improve the handling of inquiries and applications to assure timely and effective treatment of all prospective students.
- Oversee paid advertising creative and placement across all media on behalf of Alliant and its schools/centers.
- Lead the redesign of Alliant’s website and supervise all ongoing web-related functions.
- Oversee public relations activities to build awareness of Alliant and its unique strengths in professional and higher education communities.
- Work with Admissions and the schools/centers to conduct market research and capture data to inform marketing strategies.
- Track market trends, recommend changes to marketing strategies based on analysis.
- Establish and implement branding and marketing guidelines and procedures.
- Prepare and manage the overall marketing and communications budget.
- Develop metrics to measure the effectiveness of all marketing efforts and assure that the institution responds to data in timely and effective ways.
- Build and maintain a high performance culture through effective management, communication and coaching of staff

Education:

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in marketing or related discipline.

Experience:
|
- 10 or more years of senior-level marketing experience
- Strong familiarity with higher education marketing in a multi-campus environment
- Knowledge of integrated marketing channels, spanning traditional and new web-based media
- Proven ability to drive marketing and communications strategy, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills
- Skill and experience to initialize a series of centralized marketing services in an existing decentralized environment
- Proven ability to work in a complex, matrix environment requiring intensive collaboration and consultation

· Strong leadership, people and fiscal management experience with solid analytical, business plan development expertise, and interpersonal skills are required.
· Marketing/publication skills with the ability to analyze and respond quickly to growth opportunities, including cooperative ventures and partnerships.
· Creativity, innovation, and demonstrated skills working collaboratively with diverse constituents to envision, position, develop, and implement a superior institutional admissions, marketing and communications plan and program aimed at multiple audiences in graduate education.
· Exceptional sales presentation, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to train and motivate marketing and communications staff to achieve optimal, financially driven results.
· Excellent customer service commitment with the ability to set and maintain optimal customer services standards and work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders and the public.
· Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to implement and complete projects successfully by established timelines.
