Title: Graduate Assistant of Housing

Department: Office of Housing and Residence Life

Reports To: Director of Housing and Residence Life

Hours: 25 hours per week

Summary:

The Graduate Assistant of Housing, under the general direction of the Director of Housing and Residence Life provides for the live-in management and administration.  The position assists with summer conference and guest housing.  The Graduate Assistant supervises the student workers and summer resident advisors.  This position will be required to live in housing with the residents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. General

·         In the absence of Director of Housing and Residence Life, supervise the department.

·         Serve as emergency contact person by assisting in on call rotation.

·         Collaborates with the Director in providing positive customer service to summer conference groups and guests.

·         Assist in the preparation all emergency materials (Earthquake, Fire, etc.) and drills while ensuring emergency supplies are accessible and current. 

·         Maintains procedures to handle student records, information package, meal counts, off campus housing information, occupancy reports, billing, student services, and policies.

·         Assists in the management of student centers, resources, student center attendant coverage, building access, and oversee coordination and scheduling of building use.

·         Develops and maintains off campus housing board.

·         Attendance at regular meetings, including: Supervision, Student Life Staff, Summer Conference planning meetings, one-on-one student center attendant supervision and Summer Resident Advisors Supervision.

 

  1. Staff Management

·         Provide direction to the Student Center Attendants and Summer Staff.

·         Recruit and select Student center attendants and summer staff.

·         Train the student center attendants and summer staff.

·         Develop building 10 and 20 work schedules for student center attendants.

·         Conduct group and individual meetings with Summer Staff and Student Center Attendants.

·         Evaluate summer staff and student center attendants in conjunction with Director of Housing and Residence Life, including: conducting performance evaluations on at least a semester basis and disciplining or terminating workers with unsatisfactory performance.

 

3.     Facilities Management & Administration

·         Coordinates summer conference and guest housing check in and check out.

·         Walk through the guest housing suites as needed to assess upkeep concerns.

·         Process student, summer conference, and guest housing billing.

·         Coordinate room selection and suitemate matching assignment.

·         Processes room inventory inspections and damage assessments.

·         Assist in the generation of reports on CARS residence data, room occupancy, student retention, room condition and inventory report and reports on a semester and annual basis.

·         Provides reports on meal counts, student billing, CARS residence data, room occupancy, and student retention.

·         Maintains a system to track the daily student usage of building 10 and 20.

 

4.     Community

·         Maintain a positive working relationship with the university and San Diego community to develop contacts who wish to lease housing facilities.



Requirements:

Education:

 

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or related field. Working on a Master or Doctoral degree at Alliant International University. Must remain in good academic standing at all times.

 

 

Experience:

 

Preferred Residence Life experience with a student affairs background dealing with students, organizational skills, computers, and facilities/operations.

 

Supervises:

2-5 Student employees

 

Technology Skills:

 

MS Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and Internet



Status: Part-time Non-Exempt

Salary: Depending upon experience
