Alliant Appoints New Executive Vice President for International and Strategic Development

Chief Financial Officer Tarun Bhatia has been reassigned and appointed as Alliant's executive vice president for international and strategic development.
Establishing this new position fulfills one of Alliant’s strategic priorities, charging Bhatia with overseeing and supporting Alliant’s international activities. He will engage Alliant’s five schools to facilitate plans for international programs, and will work to ensure that these complex programs are managed efficiently. In addition to his oversight of Alliant’s international portfolio, Bhatia will also have responsibility for new investment and institutional development strategies.
“At a time when nearly all universities are turning more attention to international opportunities, we are fortunate to have someone with Tarun’s extensive international business experience to guide our own development,” says President Geoff Cox.
Bhatia’s extensive international and business experience includes previous work at Johnson and Johnson establishing their African and Middle East business, in multiple assignments with United Technologies/Otis Elevator/Carrier and as chief financial officer of Solectron’s (now Flextronics) Asia Pacific operations. He has lived in Cyprus, Hong Kong, India, Nigeria, Taiwan and Turkey, adding to his extensive international experience.
Bhatia served as Alliant’s chief financial officer since 2004, beginning his tenure during a time of enormous financial challenges for the university. He was instrumental in stabilizing Alliant’s financial picture and strengthening financial management.
Additionally, Bhatia has been a key player in developing strategic plans for the University in every area, from the expansion and addition of academic programs to the development of current projects to upgrade information technology and campus facilities operations.
Bhatia has an MBA from Cornell University, a bachelor of commerce degree from Sydenham College of the University of Mumbai and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) having worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in audit, and was honored with the Beyer Silver Medal when he completed his Certified Management Accounting (CMA) professional qualifications.
